Intention is Everything

Falling in love
happens in seconds.

Couple sharing their first dance with a slight blur.

You look for it, find it, and then build it. It’s the commitment to choosing each other again and again, for a lifetime. And it’s gathering your whole world to celebrate.

It’s a brushing of pinkies as you walk side by side. It’s a gentle touch on the small of a back. It’s the sudden knowing that you can’t fathom a better life than one spent together.

Sustained love is on purpose.

Let’s capture your intentional love.

Shall We?
“Her work goes beyond each picture. From the moment we met until today when I got my gallery, Josie has made the entire experience of getting married magical.”

– Jenna Crowell

The best wedding days are a mix of effort, intention and pure chance.

Effort

Being attuned to emotions and people in a room I'm able to sense when something is pulling you out of the moment—and what's needed for you to make your way back. It may be as simple as a grounding breath. Or gently shifting into the shade when the heat starts to weigh on you.

Those same senses help me catch the most meaningful vignettes, expressions, and story lines happening all around you.

Intention

Intention doesn't mean rigid or structured or exacting. It's moving with meaning. So on your day, while you live these beautiful moments, I'll be right there—moving with meaning. Never rushing, never interrupting. Just finding the moments that will mean the most to you for years to come.

I’ll get teary, not for the moment happening in front of me, but for the one 20 years from now—when you’re looking at the photograph I’m taking.

Pure Chance

Other than your portraits, there’ll be little to no trace of my fingerprints on your photographs. The ones that pulled on your heartstrings and led you to me—I couldn’t have come up with them in my wildest dreams.

There’s no way to plan for the cute chaos trying to wrangle flower girls for family photos. The dog sneaking a bite of your dinner. The band playing your family's favorite song.

A day lived as fully as yours, will have its moments too—that much, I can plan for.

"We always knew we were in good hands...
Josie has a very calm and kind presence. As a couple who has always felt a little awkward in front of the camera, Josie made us feel so comfortable and natural, we couldn't believe how perfectly unposed our photos were."

There’s no formula for your photographs.

Photojournalistic Approach

The uniqueness of a couple informs how I document a day and inspires how I interpret the memories unfolding all around us.

The photographs that tell the truth of those memories won’t be perfectly staged. They’ll be of life in motion, that I observed unobtrusively and wholeheartedly alongside you.

Analog Film Photography

Film instantly pulls you into a world of nostalgia and honesty. It’s truly a miracle how chemical compounds work to physically create an image in real time—giving you tangible evidence of an experience that couldn’t be altered if I tried.

I’ll reach for this storytelling tool when the sweet, slowness of your day gives way.

Your aunt giving you a big sweeping hug that reminds you of the way your grandma used to hold you.
Your little sibling teasing you all day but struggling to hold back tears during their speech.
Your neighbors-turned-besties sneaking you a glass of champagne to you on the dance floor.

I cannot create these connections. I can only make space for them. And be observant enough to catch them.

I'll handle the latter
