About Alex + Josie
If you trust us and allow yourself to be completely open with us, then your wedding photos will never be filled with stiff poses and fake smiles. Your photographs must speak volumes about you as a couple. That’s why we’re here: to capture your dynamic, unrestrained by the camera in the most detailed and photojournalistic way. The ones that you view year after year, your eyes still brimming with tears each time. We focus on a lot more than just the love story between you two. We capture what is around you because the guests and family that made such effort to be present at your wedding day deserve to be captured in a raw, honest and candid way as well. We are the team documenting emotional imagery that conveys intimacy, tenderness, and nostalgia. We are the team that will capture both the loud exciting moments as well as the tranquil and private.
You are unlike anyone else, and so is the way you love each other. That’s what we want to be there for.
Granted, you’ll have one or two “smile at the camera” photos so your mom has something to hang on the wall. Other than that, there’s no need for stiff awkward portraits. When you look back at your photos, you should relive every emotion-packed moment of your wedding day. Feel the tension and excitement again of your closest friends fluttering around the room, getting ready with you. That moment when your parents held back tears as they hugged you tight before the ceremony. Grinning so much when your spouse saw you for the first time and stared in complete awe as you walk down the aisle. We don’t let those in-between moments go to waste.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been the self-entertained type, constantly on the lookout for something new to try. I’m always working to educate myself on something new, whether that means learning how to play the piano (currently attempting) or teaching myself programming. Even though I go through these new things pretty quickly, some of my favorites have stuck. For instance, I don’t just *love* coffee. I LOVE coffee. Currently my favorite way to brew is via Chemex. I strongly judge my wife for sticking with her Keurig. I love podcasts and listening to NPR. Also, I’ve been playing classical guitar for a little over 8 years. Although I am self-taught when it comes to photography and videography, I went to school for graphic design in 2012, which I believe heavily influences how I look at composition. I love minimalism, balance, and simplicity in my work. I’m a die-hard cat person, an ENFP, and a plant person. I’ve seen every season of The Office at least 4 times, and according to iTunes have listened to the album “Torches” by Foster the People over 400 times. Judge me all you want, no regrets.
I’ve always been a visual learner since childhood. My grandfather was a professional pianist and jazz composer, and even though I definitely didn’t inherit the musical talent like Alex, I was raised to value that at a very young age. My family encouraged what little artistic ability I had as a child, and I’ve been making funny little illustrations and paintings since then. I remember regularly sorting through my grandmother’s pantry and pulling out as many well-designed cookbooks as possible, totally fascinated with the illustrations and styling of food photography. I’m constantly drawn to minimal design as well as rich, bright hues that belong in paint tubes. I like little things, the way sunlight will catch dust floating around in a dark room, the sound of an orchestra tuning their instruments before a concert, and watching my husband’s glasses fog up when he drinks his coffee. Also, I really enjoy learning about personality types and love languages. If you’re into the whole Myers-Briggs thing, I’m an ENFP which is technically the most introverted extrovert. I don’t thrive in huge group social situations, and I prefer one-on-one time with people. Lastly, I’m a sympathetic cryer, especially at weddings. If you cry in front of me, I will definitely cry without a doubt. And I really like cheese and naps, but not necessarily in that order.
